P#10 Initial Sizing of a 6M Catamaran Fishing Boat

Marine design consultancy

At Marine Design Consultancy, we recently completed the initial sizing of a 6-meter catamaran fishing boat designed for operations in the Persian Gulf. This vessel is tailored for a one-day endurance mission and boasts an impressive speed of 50 knots. With a displacement of 2.3 tons, it features two storage compartments, each with a capacity of 100 kg, making it ideal for fishing operations.

We used an Excel-based tool developed in-house by our skilled naval architects for the initial sizing process. This tool is based on the renowned UCL Daisy Ship Design Data Book and Procedure Book, which provides a comprehensive range of form parameters such as prismatic coefficient (Cp), midship coefficient (Cm), block coefficient (Cb), and length-to-beam ratio (L/B). These parameters form the baseline of the design, which is then fine-tuned through iterative methods

The design tool is divided into seven groups, each focusing on different aspects of the vessel:

  1. Hull
  2. Personnel
  3. Ship Systems
  4. Propulsion
  5. Electrical
  6. Payload
  7. Variable Data

This streamlined approach allows us to efficiently input data and customize designs according to specific project needs. Here’s a glimpse of the tool in action:
