Project 07- Hydrodynamic Optimization of High-Speed Planing

Hull optimization

Overview
This project focused on enhancing the performance of a high-speed planing hull through strategic hull modifications. Various spray rail configurations—single and double—were integrated into the hull design and tested using CFD analysis to determine their impact on drag, lift, and overall efficiency.

Approach
Several positions and dimensions of spray rails were modeled and analyzed using STAR-CCM+. Each configuration’s performance was compared in terms of resistance, dynamic trim, and spray control to identify the optimal setup for high-speed operation.

Software & Tools

  • STAR-CCM+
  • Overset Mesh, VOF
  • Multiple design iterations with performance benchmarking

Key Outcomes
✅ Significant drag reduction achieved
✅ Improved trim and lift at high speeds
✅ Enhanced fuel efficiency and spray suppression
